Digital Manuscript Libraries

Many important manuscript libraries are making their collections available online.The list of ever growing. While some manuscript libraries allows users to download, others only allow online viewing. But in any case, having these manuscripts available for consultation online is a true convenience for the researcher.


A very useful site is at the Research Guides section of the website of the University of Michigan. The website also has a section for Islamic Manuscript Studies and contains loads of useful references and links to websites.

The Bibliotheque National has a special website, called “Gallica” where a large number of manuscripts are available for online viewing and download. Some of them are in black-white.
